McDonald and Miller Keep Cool In Heat at Crail.

Submitted by Iain Miller (Jnr)

We departed Aberdeen at 5am on Saturday 2nd July 11 for The Summer Stages Rally 2011. Iain Miller Jnr and Gary McDonald`s Second rally together. We arrived just after 7am and unloaded the car and went straight to noise check which we passed no problem so then on to scrutineering. I think we must have got a newly qualified one as he was over the car with a fine tooth comb but after about twenty minutes we passed so signed on and went back to the service area which was laid out and we were ready to go.

Stage 1 was a very technical stage with lots of tight chicanes so before the stage we talked over the notes and decided to just drive the stage as we see it. It started off ok but as we tried to negotiate one of the chicanes >>click here to read the full report

Sad News

Club Member Charlie Stott, aka The Chimp - lost his fight for life on Sunday 26th  September 2010.

Charlie StottOur thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. Chimp loved his motorsport and made his competive debut at Crail last November, navigating for Paul Stuart in the Escort.

He will be sorely missed and was very much part of Team ADMC.

Chimps' funeral was at Aberdeen Crematorium, on Tuesday 5th October 2010.  Family flowers only were requested but donations can still be made in favour of CLAN.

We came together at The Kingdom Stages, Crail on Saturday 6th November 2010 as a tribute to his zest for life and to raise money for CLAN and we did- "Do it one more time for The Chimp"

ADMC  raised £250 at Crail for CLAN on behalf of Charlie Stott just by asking for donations for Car stickers, t shirts and food.

Car stickers commerating Charlie were available at Crail for a minimum donation of £5.  (Stickers are still available) email: janetdickson244@btinternet.com for info

Neil has the XR2 factor Mar 2007

Few people can say they have gone toe to toe with a Porsche GT3 and embarrassed the German supercar, but Neil Dunbar can.  Christopher Scott talked to the Hatton-based Fiesta fanatic.Neil Dunbar is a happy man.  The 35-year old driver and mechanic managed to pilot his car to out run a Porsche GT3 at Knockhill race circuit recently.

So what, you might ask?  Well he was in his 1985 Mk11 Fiesta at the time that's what.  That's impressive. With a third-place finish in his class in the Highland Speed Championship last year, Neil is up for the cup again this season

“Last year, I entered my first full championship year, racing all around the north of  Scotland,” he said.

“Unfortunately, my car was classed with Subarus and Mitsubishi Evos.  I still managed to finish in third place overall and hope to collect my trophy next month.” .

“This year, I am looking to score more points, maybe even first place, as cars like mine will have a class of their own, separated from the turbo four-wheel-drives.”

The transition from enthusiast to racer came relatively late for Neil, who is based at Hatton, Aberdeenshire, but with a little help from his friends, he caught the motorsport bug.  He acquired the Fiesta eight years ago.  It refused to start when he bought it.  All that has changed, however, as Neil’s mechanical TLC has transformed the car into a race-primed beast.

“I’ve worked on XR2s before and have always liked them,” said Neil, a self-confessed engine obsessive who has worked on cars since he was 13.

“I started fixing up the XR2 bit by bit.  I didn’t have much cash back then, so most of the parts were home-made.  It wasn’t fast, but it was faster that it was when I bought it and I was happy enough with that.”  That was before Garry Muir, Neil’s friend and neighbour, introduced him to the race circuit at Knockhill, Fife, the self-styled home of Scottish motorsport.

That got me totally hooked.  My brakes were worn out by dinner time, but that session in the morning made me realise that racing was something I wanted in my life.”

That was 1999 and, the following year, Neil began regular, hot-hatch racing, sprints and hillclimbs. >>click here to read the full article

Marieanne Gray

Marieanne Gray

One of the biggest motorsport myths is the position of females in the industry. For far too long, the image of women has involved a short skirt, an unnecessary large amount of fake tan, and a large stick with a number on the top.

But times are changing. The days of ‘brolly dollies' are moving on, and females are finding themselves motorsport stars in their own right.
Marieanne Gray is one of these stars; making a name for herself in the rallying community.

Currently competing in the Scottish Tarmac Rally Championship, Gray has had a string of top 25 performances, as well as a class win in her first ever road rally. These successes are seeing her looking at gravel and forest rallies in the near future.

Marieanne started her rallying career just a year ago, testament to her talent and skill to already be on the road to major success.

So how did the proud Scot, break into the sport? Girlracer's Sarah Lancaster got to quiz the Rally Star.

"I was 27 when I started to get involved in rallying. Some see it as being a bit older to get started but due to many reasons I never really did much about getting involved until just last year. I started off by contacting my local motor club (Aberdeen and district, ADMC) after many long conversations with the club president, who's also a co-driver, I got going from there. My ADMC family all kept me right and got me going; they even helped to set up my debut with my first driver."

To be successful in motorsport, first you need to get involved, to be known, >>click here to read the full report
