2009
is a red letter year forAberdeen and District Motor Club and the
Granite City Rally
The Club celebrates its
Centenary and it is the 40th time that the Granite City Rally has
run as a daylight forest stage rally. Since the first time of the rally
being run in this format, in 1968, it has not run on two occasions: 1974 due to
a fuel crisis and 2001 because of foot and mouth disease.
The
years have seen big changes in the technology, from a BDA Ford Anglia, through
the classic Mark 2 Escort, Triumph TR7s, Metro 6R4s, Ford Sierras to theSubaru Imprezas
and Mitsubishi EVOs of the current competitors.
The
route this year was once again a compact route in the Kincardineshire
forests. With 45 stage miles, most forest stages were single usage, with only 5
miles of double use and with less than 100 road miles.
With
2 wheel drive Cars in Classes 1 to 5 running at the front of the rally, once
again this competitors in the small-engined cars had the benefit of smoother roads.
Rally
HQ as usual was the Thistle Hotel, Altens, where special weekend rates were on
offer for the rally, and we are grateful for their assistance and hospitality
which always makes the Granite weekend one to remember.
The
Organisers would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who have
