Scottish Tarmac Rally Championship 2006Round 2 - Grant Construction Tarmac Stages RallyCrail, 25th March 2006It was very wet and foggy at 06:30 on Saturday 25th March as we headed south to Crail for Round 2 of the Scottish TarmacRally Championship. Still, when has fog and rain ever deterred the motor sport fanatic? Not often enough, I can tell you! I don't like the cold, damp, wet weather - but, a deal is a deal and we had agreed to be there, so there we would be Tracey Louise & Gary Muir

Tarmac Rallies are similar to forest stage rallying, but taking place entirely on sealed surface roads. Generally at higher speeds than forest rallying, tarmac Rallies are particularly common in locations where permission is given to close public roads - something which isn't generally permitted on the UK mainland, with one or two minor exceptions. Famous Scottish annual Tarmac rallys include the "Jim Clark" and of course "The Tour of Mull". |
For Single-Venue Rallys, the normal principals of stage rallying apply, but everything takes place in one location, such as a disused airfield, where runways and service roads can make ideal circuits, or a motor racing circuit. Costs are generally cheaper but the excitment just as great!! Local Single Venue Rallies include "Ingliston" and The "Crail" series. |
